MINER A-200 RESISTIVITY METER

Miner A-200 is a geophysical resistivity instrument with its four electrodes having direct contact with the soil. It is used for locating underground anomalies of caves, tunnels, graves, ancient walls, metals, water.

Miner A-200 has four electrodes (C1, P1, P2, C2) and a wooden frame. C is the current, P is the potential. The test current is 5mA. It has 2 x 40 meter cables and 2 x 20 meter cables. The main control unit has a large LCD.

 

HOW TO USE MINER A-200?

Drive four electrodes into the ground. Connect wires into the instrument's four terminals. Press TEST button (on). The green current output indicator lamp is lit. The electrical current is transmitted between electrodes. Press TEST button (off) and read the resistance figure on display.

Sudden decrease of the figure on display is high conductivity (big metal, groundwater, etc.). Sudden increase of the figure on display is low conductivity (or non conductivity) (cave, tunnel, void, ancient wall, etc.)

 

1) WENNER ARRAY (detection depth up to 10 metres for archaeological applications)

In Wenner Array, the detection depth is approximately equal to the distance between two adjacent electrodes. C1, P1, P2, C2 electrodes must be in a line and the distance between them must be equal.

 

 

In the example above, the target is located at the intersection point of two tests (horizontal test 3 & vertical test 9) where the resistivity figures on display have suddenly increased.

"a" is the distance between two electrodes. As the distance increases, the detection depth increases.

For example; if the distance is 3 meters between two adjacent electrodes, the maximum detection depth is 3 meters. If the distance is 5 meters, maximum detection depth is 5 meters.

 

   

The above picture on the left illustrates the electrical current flowing through the soil between the electrodes; C1 and C2.

 

The above picture on the right illustrates the electrical current affected by the stone wall underground while flowing through the soil from C1 to C2. There occurs a potential difference which will be measured by the middle electrodes (P1, P2). The figure on the screen will suddenly increase.

 

The above picture illustrates the electrical current affected by the water filled cave while flowing through the soil from C1 to C2. There occurs a potential difference which will be measured by the middle electrodes (P1, P2). The figure on the screen will suddenly decrease.

 

2) TWIN PROBE ARRAY (detection depth up to 2.5 metres)

The mobile electrodes (C1, P1) are mounted on a wooden frame, the other two electrodes (P2, C2) are fixed 15-20 meters away. The detection depth is 1 or 1.5 times the distance between two electrodes on the frame. The soil conditions may affect the detection depth.

The length of the wooden frame of Miner A-200 is 160 cms. C1 and P1 are screwed on the edges of the frame. The maximum detection depth is 1.5 times the length of the frame, so it is 250 cms.

In the example above, the target is located at Test 3 where the resistivity figure on display have suddenly increased.

MINER A-200 DATA TRANSFERRING

 

 

Miner A-200 geophysical data obtained from measurements is transferred to the tablet pc manually. Miner A-750 is a specially designed tablet pc which is included in the Miner A-200 set. The sudden changes in resistance can be traced from the graph. The peaks are the potential targets.

 

 

 

 

MINER A-200 GRAVITY MEASUREMENTS (with Miner A-750)

 

 

Miner A-750 measures the gravity of the earth in dimensions of x, y, z. The figures show the density of the soil being examined. The sudden changes in soil density while research refer to the changes in gravity. The caves or mineral concentrations underground will cause gravitational changes because of their different densities from the surrounding rocks. Above photo shows the screen shot of Miner A-750 in advanced mode. It is measuring the gravity of earth in a specified area. It measures x, y, z coordinates of the earth's gravity. Miner A-750 also calculates the gravitational differentiation by time.

 

 

 

The above picture shows the research performed in the field by Miner A-750. It measures x, y, z coordinates and converts the data into an absolute value. In quick scan mode, the device beeps when the gravity changes. The figure on the screen due to the large cave underground have suddenly risen which is pointing a potential target.
